SFF 2017: Food for Thought.
Peace Gardens – Pinstone Street – Sheffield – S1 2HH
Food is not just about indulging ourselves with delicious treats, there are many more serious issues raised around food that also deserve to be considered as part of the biggest event in Sheffield’s food calendar; issues such as food poverty, managing food waste, the impact of our food choices on the environment and climate, sustainability and innovations in food. The Sheffield Food Festival team worked with Regather to present the Food for Thought programme of talks and debates, held in the Winter Gardens between 4pm and 6pm each day, featuring many of the local organisations doing great work in these areas.
For those wanting to make food their business, or who want to take their existing business to the next level, we held two short business sessions in the Theatre Kitchen Marquee on Sunday 28th May. Whether selling home-made biscuits from a market-stall or opening a bakery, café or food truck the recipe for success is the same; Yvonne O’Donovan, Head of Business at The School of Artisan Food, talked about how to discover your inner entrepreneur. Following on from Yvonne, Brian Lawson from ALTO Thinking talked about how to successfully take the next steps in building your business; whether taking your first steps, growing or expanding your business, this interactive session was designed to help business owners and give them confidence to move forward.
